MTL and DTL stand for “mouth-to-lung” and “direct-to-lung” respectively, and they refer to the different ways we vapers enjoy our e-cigarettes.
When you MTL vape, it’s a lot like smoking a traditional cigarette: you first draw the vapour into your mouth, then inhale it into your lungs. This is often a favourite among those of us transitioning from smoking, as it simulates the feel of a cigarette.
On the flip side, DTL vaping is a bit like taking a deep breath of air. You inhale the vapour directly into your lungs. If you love billowing large clouds of vapour and crave an intense experience, DTL might just be your thing.
Now, if you’re scratching your head wondering which style suits you, here’s a secret: there’s no “right” or “wrong” here! It’s all about personal preference.
If you’re new to vaping, I’d recommend starting with MTL. It’s a softer introduction to the world of vaping. Once you get the hang of it, feel free to try DTL.
Now, for the tech enthusiasts among you, your vaping device and its specs play a role in your vaping style. Certain devices are designed for MTL, others for DTL.
For MTL vaping:
- Look for a device with a low wattage (this refers to the power produced by your vape device)
- Choose a coil with a high resistance (the “coil” is the part of your device that heats up the e-liquid)
- Use a narrow bore drip tip (the ‘drip tip’ is the mouthpiece of the vape device)
For DTL vaping:
- Opt for a device with a high wattage
- Use a coil with a low resistance
- Go for a wide bore drip tip
